Aberdeen City Council has agreed to appoint a new operator for an E-Bike hire scheme in the City Centre.

The decision was made by the Finance and Resources Committee on 21 November 2025.
Picture
The scheme is set to launch in Spring 2026 with at least 200 E-Bikes available for hire around the clock via a Mobile Phone app.

The previous scheme ended in Spring 2024, and public interest has prompted its reinstatement.

Aberdeen City Council will provide £200,000 from the Low Emission Zone surplus to support operations over three years, with no further funding expected as the scheme aims to become self-sustaining.

The operator will handle all aspects including infrastructure, maintenance, and reporting, with compliance to performance indicators required.

Profit-sharing will apply if the contract extends to years four and five.

Aberdeen has been awarded gold in the Britain in Bloom competition, as announced on Sunday 02 November 2025.

The achievement recognises contributions from community organisations, residents, and Aberdeen City Council gardening and grounds staff.

The awards ceremony took place on 31 October 2025.

This marks another success for the city, which has received a medal in either Britain In Bloom or Beautiful Scotland annually since 2008.

Aberdeen has participated regularly since the competition's inception in 1964 and previously won gold in 2023.

In the prior year, the city was a winner in Beautiful Scotland.

Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Dr. David Cameron, stated:

"We are over the moon about winning Britain In Bloom – it's such a tribute to our hard-working gardeners and greenkeepers as well as all the amazing community organisations, groups, and individuals who help to continue make Aberdeen's green spaces beautiful. We'd like to say a big 'thanks' to everyone who makes a contribution to our parks and green spaces and encourage everyone to come and see for themselves what beautiful – and award-winning - places they are. Aberdeen has a long and prestigious history in the Britain In Bloom and Beautiful Scotland competitions so it's a special win to get gold again."

The competition is organised by the Royal Horticultural Society for councils and community organisations across the United Kingdom.

Winners from regional events, such as Beautiful Scotland, advance to the national finals. Judges visited Aberdeen in August, beginning at the community garden in Duthie Park's Ranger Station, where they met with local groups.

The tour included The David Welch Winter Gardens, flower beds on Great Southern Road designed by schoolchildren, Victoria and Westburn Parks, Old Aberdeen, and Seaton Park.
