 Buckingham Palace has released a statement outlining measures taken against Prince Andrew, including the removal of his HRH royal style, titles, and honours.  The announcement indicates that His Majesty King Charles has commenced a formal procedure to strip these designations, resulting in Prince Andrew being referred to as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. Additionally, notice has been served to relinquish his lease on Royal Lodge, which had previously afforded him residency rights, requiring him to relocate to private accommodation. It also conveyed sympathies extended to victims and survivors of abuse. The losses began in 2019 with some patronages, escalated in January 2022 with the return of military affiliations and Royal Patronages under Queen Elizabeth II, and culminated in October 2025 with formal removals by King Charles III.  In a significant development for the British monarchy, Prince Andrew has announced his decision to relinquish his Royal title and associated honours, citing persistent accusations as a distraction to the work of King Charles and The Royal Family. The statement, released on 17 October 2025, marks a further withdrawal from public life for the Duke Of York, who stepped back from Royal duties almost five years ago.  The announcement comes after discussions with the King and his family, emphasising Prince Andrew's commitment to prioritising his duty to his family and country. Prince Andrew's statement, reads: "In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life. "With His Majesty's agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me."  The accusations stem from Prince Andrew's past association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which led to a high-profile civil lawsuit settled out of court in 2022. Despite the settlement, public scrutiny has persisted, prompting this latest move. Buckingham Palace has not issued an additional comment. |
