Prison as you've never seen it before: through the embattled, inspiring characters who work there.

Contraband, potentially smuggled in by one of the Prison Officers, has brought an increase in gang-related violence and drug problems to C Wing.

Now that she is Custodial Manager, Leigh finally has the power to break away from prison-issue sticking-plaster solutions and tackle things in a way that will foster a new culture of trust and make life better for both staff and prisoners.

Leigh announces a drugs and weapons amnesty, but can she overcome the scepticism of her team?

Meanwhile, wrestling with her own guilt, Rose is assigned to look after new young prisoner James Fairley.

Seeing James burdened by a life-altering decision, Rose takes a chance to make amends.

But can she help James to make the right choice, or will she make things worse?

As Leigh's latest maverick scheme unravels in front of Governor Ray, she finds herself ever more isolated from the other Prison Officers.

Even Jackie has run out of patience with Leigh's inability to trust her team.

To make matters worse, Toby's suspicions of Leigh have led him to his own investigations - and what he discovers could expose her secrets once and for all.

Several major developments in the case point the team towards suspects in surprising places, whilst the results of the toxicology report shed new light on Saif's character.

Encouraged by Chris, Erin offers an olive branch to Conor, but a misunderstanding leaves him more miserable than ever in his new home.

Jenn, on the other hand, seems to be finding her feet in her new job after a team bonding session, until the situation at home wrongfoots her again.

It looks as though relations in the Rahman house are improving, until Adnan gets caught up in a situation with devastating consequences.

An obstreperous suspect causes difficulties for the team, until Jenn identifies a key witness who is able to unlock the answers they need.

Welcome to C Wing in a busy men's prison, a place that’s bursting at the seams with humour, emotional high stakes and danger for prisoners and officers alike.

At the head of a group of embattled prison officers is Leigh a woman who has devoted her entire adult life to this prison and its population.

Leigh keeps her inmates in line and has their backs when they need it. Into the pressure cooker of Long Marsh Prison enters Rose, a 21-year-old trainee officer.

It is a baptism of fire even for this street-smart young woman.

She joins fellow screws Ali, Gary, Don, and Jackie.

Supervising officer Leigh Henry is coming under increased pressure to produce her birth certificate, to secure the promotion she so desperately wants.

But how far will she go to get it?

The return of a troublesome old adversary on the wing is the last thing Leigh needs, and her controversial strategy to help a prisoner who is being intimidated pits her against Gary, but could bring an unexpected solution to her problem.

Meanwhile, with the help of her colleagues, probationer Rose starts to find her feet in this terrifying new world.

But a tense encounter with a prisoner reminds Rose what is really at stake.

DS Jenn Townsend, Morecambe Bay's new Family Liaison Officer, is immediately thrown into the deep end when a body washes up in the bay on her first day on the job.

She must get under the skin of a grieving and complicated family if she has any chance of solving the premature death of an aspiring young boxer, whilst also trying to fit in with Manning and the rest of the team.
