TEENAGER HARASSED IN EMERSONS GREEN APPEAL FOR WITNESSES

Avon & Somerset Police are appealing for information after a teenage girl was harassed by a man in South Gloucestershire.

The incident happened on Wadham Grove in Emersons Green at approximately 16.50 on Friday 5 March 2021.

A man took hold of a 16-year-old girl’s hand and asked her to go with him.  The girl refused and the man subsequently walked off in the direction of Cossham Street, Mangotsfield.

The man is described as white, aged in his 30s, of average build with long blonde beard hanging down from his chin and a local Bristol accent.

He wore a green jacket with the hood up and possibly grey jogging bottoms.

PC Richard Gay, said:

"While the victim wasn't physically harmed in this incident, it has understandably left her shaken.  We’re taking this seriously and as well as keeping the victim updated with our inquiry, we continue to ensure she has access to the support she needs."

Avon & Somerset Police have been investigating the local area.

PC Gay, added:

"House to house enquiries have been carried out and neighbourhood officers have been made aware of the man's description."

PC Gay has informed the public who he would like to most hear from and said:

"We're keen to hear from anyone who recognises the man or who lives in the area who may have a doorbell camera or CCTV which captured him."

POLICE SCOTLAND RECOVER BODIES IN SEARCH FOR MISSING MOTHER & DAUGHTER

Officers searching for the whereabouts of missing woman Bennylyn Burke, 25, and her two-year old daughter, Jellica, have today, Thursday 18 March 2021, recovered two bodies.

The bodies were discovered concealed within a house in Troon Avenue, Dundee, following extensive enquiries by detectives and forensic experts.

​Post mortem examinations will take place to establish the cause of death.

Formal identification has yet to take place, however relatives of Bennylyn have been informed of the discovery.

Detective Superintendent Graeme Mackie, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, said:

"This is a significant development in what has been a particularly challenging enquiry for everyone involved.  Bennylyn’s family have been informed of this development and we will continue to support them at this difficult time as our investigation continues.  The thoughts of everyone involved in this investigation are with them at this time."

The Detective Superintendent thanks nearby residents and has said:

"I would like to thank the local community for their co-operation with what is a large and complex police operation involving many specialist resources from across Police Scotland."

Mr. Mackie reassures the public by explaining:

"There will continue to be a significant police presence in the area for some time and I would ask anyone with information to please come forward and speak to us."

Missing: Bennylyn Burke
​Officers in Dundee attended a property on Troon Avenue at approximately 15.20 on Friday 5 March, 2021, as part of an enquiry into the disappearance of Bennylyn and two children who had been reported missing from South Gloucestershire on Monday 1 March, 2021.

On Monday 8 March, 2021, a 50-year-old man appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court charged with the murders of Bennylyn and Jellica.

The second child reported missing has been traced and is being supported.

APPEAL FOR WITNESSES TO VIOLENT ROBBERY IN ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE

Officers in Greater Manchester are appealing for information following a violent knifepoint robbery in Ashton-under-Lyne.

At approximately 20:00 on Wednesday 17 March 2021, police were called to reports of a robbery on Rowley Street.

A 27-year-old man and a 20-year-old female were parked up in a blue Audi A1 with a silver roof (Index: GN64 YCA) waiting for a takeaway when they were approached by two males in balaclavas armed with large machetes and baseball bats.

The male victim was hit with a machete and dragged out of the car, and the second victim was ordered out at knifepoint.

The offenders then stole the vehicle and drove off towards Smallshaw Lane. 

The victims suffered minor injuries and were left shaken by the incident

The first offender is described as being of mixed raced, wearing a balaclava and dressed in all black.

The second man is described as white with fair skin, aged in his mid-20s and dressed in all black with a black face covering.

PC Rick Beswick, from Greater Manchester Police's Volume Crime Team, said:

"This was a violent unprovoked incident that has left two victims feeling understandably frightened and distressed.  I would like to reassure the public that we are treating this incident seriously and are following every line of enquiry available to us."

PC Beswick, concluded:

“This robbery happened in a busy area and I am hopeful that there may be some witnesses who were in the area around this time.  If you saw anything suspicious or have any information that could help with our investigation, please contact police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information about the robbery should call Greater Manchester Police on 0161 856 9350 quoting incident number 2753 of Wednesday 17 March 2021.
